Chapel Town vs Glossop North End Reserves – Wednesday 6th August

This was a game I was looking forward to watching, my 5th pre-season game and the 3rd different side I’d watched at home. This time it was Chapel Town. I was ready in jeans and t-shirt 1 hour before the match before setting off at 6:10 for a 6:30 kick off and walked down to Rowton Park around 10 minutes away. I took a diversion and walked up to High Street Chippy, chip buttie and a can of Dr Pepper for £2.10. After a brief delay there it was 7 minutes to kick off. I ran through the park at idiotic speed and was halfway there within 2 minutes. I arrived on Willow Drive and walked up the track to the ground.

I stood on the near side looking over towards the stand side. The stand itself is tiny and used mainly as dug-outs. Even in rain people still watch, its Chapel and people go to watch footie in all weather. After around 10 minutes I saw a guy I’d met on a message board he goes to a few Chapel Town games when not at New Mills. I had a chat and with painting drying looking more entertaining.

I spoke to a couple of lads I’d seen at the Buxton vs Macclesfield game who I’d known for around 18 months. We were talking and the Glossop 16 came in with a horrific tackle on Chapel’s left back, completely taking him out, it was a leg breaker but he got away with it, he was extremely lucky and so was Chapel’s left back.

Chapel Town got the ball in midfield and the 11 looped a lob towards the goal from around 30 yards, most thought it was over and I continued talking, out the corner of my eye I saw the ball hit the post and fall in! Unbelieveable! Over half-time Glossop swapped their entire side for a completely different one…in a different kit.

Chapel were donning their away strip, yellow and black quarters! This is the last showing of this before the change to AC Milan and Internationzale colours, apparently its going to be great. I’d say keep Black and White, after not losing a home match all year in it last season.

A funny moment came with little of the 2nd half gone, Chapel striker rounded the keeper with an open net to aim at he walked it to 1 foot out and scuffed his shot wide. Glossop didn’t punish but when they did it was fatal. 3 goals in the last 10 minutes, a Maradona run, a penalty and a tap in won it. Thats about it and they missed from 6 yards out with the goal gapping halfway through the 2nd half to.

At full – time I was walked straight home and ate!

Thnx

Tom
